Chrysalis is an exhibition of paintings by Pragya Gupta, presented by the Sachs Program for Arts Innovation and Penn Live Arts as part of the Arts of India Festival. The exhibition examines transformation and the process of becoming more intimately aware of one’s own life. It brings together a new series of tetraptychs—four-panel works—with earlier paintings that follow the development of Gupta’s artistic inquiry. Although the works share a consistent four-panel format, scale, and combination of commercial canvas and stitched fabric, their visual languages differ, allowing the repeated structure to serve as a framework for change.

The exhibition’s opening reception takes place on October 15, 2026. Gupta was born in Patiala, India, studied engineering and earned an MBA from the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School before working in finance in London. A visit to the National Gallery prompted her to leave finance and pursue painting. Her recent solo exhibitions include *The Places We Carry: A Search for Identity* at the Francis Cope House and *As a New Leaf Trembles* at the Manayunk-Roxborough Art Center.
