Exhibition Tours: A Nation of Artists

Explore the “A Nation of Artists” exhibition on a guided in-gallery tour led by an experienced PAFA docent. The tour considers the varied stories of American art and identity, including the international influences and global exchanges that have shaped art made in the United States.

Installed throughout PAFA’s recently restored Historic Landmark Building, the exhibition spans the late 18th century through the present and examines themes including westward expansion, industrial growth, international exchange, creativity, conflict, and innovation. More than 1,000 paintings, photographs, sculptures, decorative arts, and other works trace American history from 1700 onward. The presentation is organized in conjunction with America’s 250th anniversary and includes more than 120 seldom-seen works from the Middleton Family Collection, shown publicly for the first time across PAFA and the Philadelphia Museum of Art.
