Special Learning Session: Peter Nicks on Direct Cinema

Peter Nicks leads this hands-on session on the craft, philosophy, and ethics of direct cinema and observational documentary filmmaking. He will address the preparation involved before filming begins, including negotiating access, building relationships, and selecting cameras and lenses. The session will also examine approaches to the direct cinema style, the ways editing can shape filming decisions, the evolution of observational cinema, and examples of films that use the form effectively.

Registration also includes admission to the 7:00 PM screening of *The Waiting Room* as part of the Body of Work program.
