Saxophonist Nate Hook & His Quartet
Saxophonist Nate Hook leads his quartet in a late-night jazz performance at Chris’ Jazz Cafe. Hook, a Texas native, developed his full-toned style through the Austin jazz community and began performing at the Elephant Room by age 14. He later joined the East Coast jazz scene, studying with Vincent Herring, Harold Mabern, Gary Thomas, and other prominent musicians.
Over the past decade, Hook has performed at clubs from New York City to Washington, D.C., with artists including Ralph Peterson, Paul Bollenback, Tyshawn Sorey, Gary Thomas, Carlo De Rosa, Jean-Michel Pilc, and Bill Goodwin. His 2016 album, *Progressive Overload*, and subsequent collaborations with Paolo Cantarella combine electronic elements with his jazz background. He also plays bagpipes, a shared musical curiosity with John Coltrane.
