Producers' Forum: Tribute to Christine Choy - Loose Pages Bound: Asian Americans in the Delaware Valley
A Producers’ Forum tribute to filmmaker Christine Choy features a screening of *Loose Pages Bound: Asian Americans in the Delaware Valley*, a 1978 documentary made by Choy and Third World Newsreel with JT Takagi. Shot on 16mm, the film examines the Delaware Valley’s growing Asian American community through conversations with longtime residents, immigrants, and refugees in homes, on streets, and at community gatherings. Participants discuss their experiences, hopes, and efforts to preserve Japanese, Chinese, Filipino, Korean, and Vietnamese cultures.
This is the film’s first screening in the area in decades. JT Takagi, who served as the film’s sound recordist and editor and is now Executive Director of Third World Newsreel, will discuss the documentary and Choy’s work. The program is co-sponsored by the Philadelphia Asian American Film Festival.

About Christine Choy: Born in Shanghai to a Chinese mother and Korean father, Choy became a pioneering Asian American filmmaker and radical social justice activist. After moving to the United States as a teenager, she joined the Newsreel film collective and began making activist films in the New York area during the 1960s. She co-founded Third World Newsreel and made nearly 50 films, including the Oscar-nominated and Peabody Award-winning *Who Killed Vincent Chin?* (1987), produced with Renee Tajima-Peña. Choy died in December 2025.
