Codes of Honor: A Seminar on Michael Mann’s HEAT
Codes of Honor: A Seminar on Michael Mann’s HEAT is a 45-minute, spoiler-free pre-screening seminar led by Film Programming Manager Dan Santelli. Presented alongside the Colonial Theatre’s screening of Michael Mann’s Heat, the seminar explores the film’s place in American crime cinema and its distinctive approach to filmmaking.
Using clips, genre studies, and close analysis, Santelli will discuss the film’s themes, visual and stylistic sophistication, and relationship to Mann’s broader body of work. The seminar will consider Heat as both an action-film masterclass and a complex examination of professionalism, masculine identity, obsession, and the personal sacrifices of an all-consuming vocation. The film stars Al Pacino and Robert De Niro in a celebrated confrontation between law enforcement and professional crime. Attendees are invited to stay for a post-screening discussion after the movie.
