John Coltrane's Offering Revisited: Live at Temple University
John Coltrane’s Offering Revisited: Live at Temple University commemorates John Coltrane’s legendary 1966 Temple University performance with a 60th-anniversary reinterpretation. Presented as part of Ars Nova Workshop’s Coltrane 100 celebration, the concert will revisit the intensity and spiritual force of the performance later released as the Grammy-winning album *Offering: Live at Temple University*.
The original concert took place on November 11, 1966, at Temple’s Mitten Hall, less than a year before Coltrane’s death. Its groundbreaking lineup included Alice Coltrane, Pharoah Sanders, Rashied Ali, and Philadelphia bassist Sonny Johnson, along with local guest musicians. The 2026 ensemble, led by pianist and musical director Kris Davis, will explore the original performance’s legacy through a contemporary all-star band featuring Coltrane’s son, saxophonist Ravi Coltrane.
