Yannick Leads Mahler 9
Yannick Nézet-Séguin conducts the Curtis Symphony Orchestra in Gustav Mahler’s Ninth Symphony, a monumental farewell marked by lyrical beauty, emotional searching, and a gradual passage from the richness of life toward peaceful silence. The program opens with Valerie Coleman’s *Umoja*, an orchestral work centered on unity that confronts social tension before moving toward joy and shared humanity.
The performance features Curtis students, whose orchestral training prepares them for careers with leading ensembles around the world. Nézet-Séguin, a Grammy Award-winning conductor and Curtis faculty mentor, is joined by conducting fellow Yiran Zhao.
