The Art of Response: Ekphrastic Writing
The Art of Response: Ekphrastic Writing is a creative writing workshop that explores how visual art can inspire poetry, fiction, and creative nonfiction. Participants will consider artworks from *Abstractions in Nature: Quarries and Industry in Pennsylvania Impressionism* and use them as starting points for descriptive, interpretive, and reflective writing.
The program begins in the galleries with a short presentation from a Michener docent or staff member about the artists and their work. Workshop leaders from the Volta Center for Writing Arts will then lead generative prompts intended to encourage creativity, overcome writer’s block, and develop vivid, sensory language. Volta was founded by Poet Laureate Community Projects, a group established in 2021 by former Bucks County Poets Laureate, to expand opportunities for writers and collaborative artists in Bucks County and the greater Philadelphia region.
