Coco Montoya
Coco Montoya brings his soulful, hard-driving electric blues to Wilmington for an evening of passionate singing and fiery guitar work. A self-taught, left-handed guitarist, Montoya developed his style under the guidance of Albert Collins, for whom he initially played drums, and UK blues legend John Mayall. His performances blend the lessons of those mentors with his own inventive approach.
Montoya’s latest Alligator Records release, *Writing On The Wall*, is described as one of his strongest albums. Produced by Grammy Award winner Tony Braunagel and co-produced by keyboardist and songwriter Jeff Paris, the 13-track record includes five songs written or co-written by Montoya and features his touring band: Jeff Paris on keyboards, Nathan Brown on bass, and Rena Beavers on drums. Montoya’s debut solo album arrived in 1995 and earned him a Blues Music Award for Best New Artist.
