TJ Kong and the Atomic Bomb
TJ Kong and the Atomic Bomb bring their eclectic Americana and blues to Johnny Brenda’s, blending cinematic arrangements with raw songs about heartbreak, whiskey, loneliness, depression, and hard-luck lives. The band’s ragged, lo-fi sound has been compared to The Basement Tapes and Anodyne, while descriptions from WXPN, Pop Montreal, USA Today, and PopMatters characterize them as evocative, energetic, and among Philadelphia’s most sought-after bands.
The evening also features Squawk Brothers, a six-piece country-influenced group formed by members of The Teeth and Purples, and Mandy Valentine, a Philadelphia six-piece country-western rock & roll band known for lively original songs and covers influenced by Elvis, Dolly Parton, The Beatles, and 1960s girl groups.
