Roy From Space (Roy del Espacio)
Roy From Space (Roy del Espacio) is a newly restored Mexican outsider science-fiction animation that had been lost for more than 40 years. The film follows Roy, a helmeted visitor from Earth, as he battles synthesizer-voiced robots and flying saucers on behalf of the villainous King Alom while dealing with the king’s passionate daughter.
The only feature directed by animator Héctor López Carmona, the film was loosely inspired by the 1930s Flash Gordon serials and produced over three years with help from nonprofessional animators. Its unusual, disorienting visual style is presented in a new scan from the original 35mm negative, restored by Deaf Crocodile.
